Carmelite Convent
Mathoura, NSW
This design for a Carmelite Monastery at Mathoura NSW, is groundbreaking in its commitment to build using timeless, durable, and authentic sustainable construction methodologies. The monastery, which has been approved and for which we are currently working to obtain CC approval, employs a combination of granite, limestone, and rammed earth.
To ensure longevity, no reinforced concrete or &imsy modern construction will be used. MJSA is currently working closely with a traditional Spanish master builders and specialist engineers, to navigate through a complex regulatory framework biased towards disposable construction. In so doing we believe that this could form the basis for new traditionally constructed builds in Australia.
Construction is due to commence in 2026.
